About the speakers:
Tom Higham is a Professor of Scientific Archaeology in the Department of Evolutionary Anthropology at the University of Vienna. Prior to coming to Vienna in August 2021 he was the Director of the University of Oxford’s Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit. His research focuses on developing and improving the radiocarbon method and applying it to the dating of archaeological sites, especially those dating to the Palaeolithic period
The British archaeologist Rebecca Wragg Sykes has been fascinated by the Neanderthals since she was a
child. In addition to her research work, has earned a reputation for exceptional public communication.
She publishes in print media such as The Guardian and The New York Times and speaks about her work on a variety of science programmes. She is also co– founder of the TrowelBlazers project, which works to increase the visibility of women in archeology and earth sciences.
